Class Description

Special Needs

Do you have a child with autism who loves to dance, but may not be comfortable in a traditional dance class? We now have a class with a curriculum developed from dance/movement therapy and autism movement therapy tailored specifically for kids ages 6-12 with autism. All students across the autism spectrum are welcome to work on social skills, motor development, and have fun in this interactive dance class! The curriculum uses evidence-based practices of instruction for youth with autism like video modeling and visual aids as well as practices from dance/movement therapy to customize a traditional ballet class to meet the needs of your child. Each child is allowed to bring along one registered behavioral therapist (RBT), respite provider, or another caregiver to aid with behavioral needs during the class.

Your dance instructor for this class, Ms. Alex, is a Doctoral Candidate in School Psychology at Indiana University. She has 3 years of experience as an RBT, experience in autism assessment, and challenging behavior intervention. Ms. Alex is excited to integrate her love of dance and her passion for creating opportunities for youth with autism through this new offering!
